Jaume Darbra Fa
Jaume Darbra is a multidisciplinary, independent artist based between Cologne and Murcia.
As an independent flutist, Jaume works internationally at the intersection of contemporary music and visual arts. His engagements have taken him across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, performing in leading venues, festivals, and institutions such as Wien Modern (Austria); November Music, STEIM, and Gaudeamus Muziekweek (Netherlands); Mixtur (Spain); Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and Snape Maltings (UK); Harvard University (USA); Festival ManiFeste and IRCAM (France); Musikfest Berlin and ZKM (Germany); Lucerne Festival (Switzerland); Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival (South Korea); Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (Canada); the International Composition Institute of Thailand (Thailand); the National University of La Plata (Argentina); and Teatro Teresa Carreño (Venezuela). He has collaborated with Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Marina Abramović, Cirque du Soleil, Romain Bischoff, B. C. Manjunath, Robert Henke, among others.
Alongside regular work with orchestras such as Staatskapelle Berlin, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra, he is dedicated to contemporary music. He has premiered works by peers of his generation as well as by Simon Steen-Andersen, Rebecca Saunders, Unsuk Chin, Enno Poppe, Malin Bång, and Alexander Schubert, and has performed with numerous contemporary ensembles, including Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Recherche, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Ictus ensemble, and the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra.
Jaume studied flute in Barcelona with Júlia Gàllego and pursued Live Electronics and Carnatic music in Amsterdam with Jos Zwaanenburg, Marcel Wierckx, Jorge Isaac, Hidde de Jong, Rafael Reina, and Jonás Bisquert. He has also been a member of the Ensemble Modern Academy (Frankfurt) and of the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Rome).
Besides from his performance schedule, Jaume is pursuing a PhD in Education at the University of Murcia, investigating music and deafness to develop inclusive pedagogical frameworks for deaf and hard‑of‑hearing audiences and performers. He is a regular critic for La Verdad newspaper, hosts the podcast “Raíces y partituras” on Cadena SER – Radio Murcia, and collaborates with industry innovators such as Soundbrenner, Halbestunde, Woodify and Meta Platforms, Inc.
