Joe Howson
Joe Howson is an award-winning collaborative pianist dedicated to the music of our time. He studied in London at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and the Royal College of Music, winning numerous prizes and subsequently being hired as staff accompanist at both institutions. He went on to an orchestral fellowship with the Philharmonia Orchestra, to train with the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, and as emerging NEXT artist with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, with whom he is now a regular guest performer. He was supported during his studies in London by the Craxton Memorial Trust, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, RCM Mike Rimmer Scholarship, and the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
Since 2021 he is the principal pianist of Sinfonia Cymru, performing across Wales in a wide variety of chamber ensembles. He also regularly performs across the UK with his clarinet trio 'The Farrenc Trio', and in 2022 was awarded a piano fellowship at New Music on the Point in the USA. As piano soloist he is the recipient of numerous prizes, including first prizes at the International Kabelevsky Competition and Premio Crescendo, and the Kerr Memorial Prize at the Royal Overseas League Competition.
In 2023 he was awarded the DAAD postgraduate scholarship to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with Florence Millet. In the same year he participated in the Lucerne Festival Academy and Grafenegg Festival Academy.
