Matteo Gualandi

My work seeks to rediscover a freshness in the perception of musical language, both through the invention of new “words” and through a renewed perspective on those that already exist. Certain sound forms - ancient yet still alive - continue, for me, to breathe and speak.

My music is characterised by an economy of means and a constant focus on sensation.

I sometimes seek the emergence of the unexpected within it - where black crows can give rise to white doves.

Supported by the ULYSSES Platform, Matteo was selected to part in the composition workshop and subsequent concert in the context of Jazeps Vītols Latvian Music Academy's contemporary Music festival "deciBels" 2026.
