A Journey of Artistic Discovery Across Europe

20th-Century Italian Piano Music - Workshop with Roberto Prosseda

Institute of Music - Fondazione Giorgio Cini

Deadline

24-27 March 2026
Institute of Music - Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice

Call for applications: 6 Pianists

Application deadline: 1 February 2026

This workshop marks the return of the Research-led Performance cycle, launched in 2016, and one of the Institute of Music’s most acclaimed and popular initiatives. Its prestige is reflected in the participation of leading performers of 20th-century music, including Roberto Prosseda, internationally renowned for his recordings of the complete piano works of Mendelssohn and Mozart. In his concerts, Prosseda combines a profound understanding of the classical repertoire with an insightful exploration of 20th-century Italian piano music. This dual perspective – where the aesthetics of classicism intersect with linguistic innovation – together with his keen interest in the unique relationship between soloist and audience, aligns closely with the conceptual foundations of Research-led Performance

The workshop will focus on compositions by Alfredo Casella, Goffredo Petrassi, Luigi Dallapiccola, Aldo Clementi and Niccolò Castiglioni.

To be considered for the selection process, applicants must submit their materials by email (concorsimusica@cini.it) no later than 1 February 2026, including the following documentation:

  • - Completed application form.
  • - Curriculum vitae detailing completed and/or ongoing studies, as well as any professional experience in music history. The CV must include full personal details and contact information, and be accompanied by a signed authorization for the processing of personal data solely for the purposes of the workshop.
  • - Short letter of motivation (maximum 2 typed pages).
  • - Audio/video samples: 1 or 2 links (streaming or downloadable) featuring at least 2 tracks, one of which must be selected from the repertoire covered by the workshop.

The Institute of Music of the Giorgio Cini Foundation offers the following to participants admitted to the workshop:

  • Accommodation from 23 to 27 March (inclusive) at the Vittore Branca International Centre for Italian Studies on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.
  • Lunches from 23 to 27 March (inclusive).
  • Certificate of participation issued upon verification of attendance, which must be 100% of the lessons.

Please note: there is no registration fee or financial contribution required to participate in the workshop.
