Advanced Course in Composition with Adriano Guarnieri

For the second consecutive year, The Musicalia - School of Music, based in Castel Maggiore (BO), is offering the course "From the Classics to the Contemporary: Advanced Course in Musical Composition and Analysis". This edition is organized in collaboration with the In.Nova Fert Association and the International Museum and Music Library of Bologna.
The course will be taught by composer Adriano Guarnieri, a prominent figure in contemporary music.

Course Description

This is a laboratory-based course focused on study, experimentation and dialogue. Analytical insights are combined with creative practice.
Each participant will be mentored throughout the year in the development and completion of an original composition.
At the end of the course, students’ compositions will be performed by the In.Nova Fert Ensemble in a concert open to the general public. In preparation for the final concert, the In.Nova Fert Ensemble will also lead a class centered on rehearsing student compositions, and exploring performance techniques in contemporary music.

Admission

Applicants must submit a brief artistic curriculum one original score

Admission is subject to evaluation by the Instructor. 

Applications must be submitted by October 18, 2025.

Course Structure

8 monthly group meetings (4 hours each)
Classes held on Saturdays, from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Location: Musicalia School, Piazza Amendola, 1 – Castel Maggiore (BO), Italy

Introductory Meeting

Saturday, October 11, 2025 – 4:00 PM A presentation of the course will be held at Sala Cutuli, Castel Maggiore (BO) . Participants will receive a detailed program overview and may take part in an informal introductory interview with Adriano Guarnieri, who will share his experience and offer personalized guidance.

Final Concert

At the end of the course, a public concert will feature the students' compositions, performed by the In.Nova Fert Ensemble.

Certificate

A certificate of merit will be awarded at the final concert.
