ensemble eeek is looking for a composer to create a new piece for an ensemble of ten musicians and a fifteen-minute classical film. This call is open to composers of all backgrounds, genders, ages, from all over the world.

we offer

  • A fee of CHF 4,500
  • Premiere of the piece in Basel
  • Travel expenses of up to CHF 300 for the premiere
  • One night's accommodation in Basel for the premiere

we need

Send us the following documents to eeekensemble@gmail.com with the subject "Open Call"

  • A PDF score for ensemble
  • A recording of an ensemble piece (link to YouTube, SoundCloud, etc.)
  • Biography with list of works
  • Description of the new work (maximum one page)
  • Registration fee of CHF 30 and a proof of transfer

details of the piece

The puece should be around 15 minutes long and designed to accompany the screening of a classic short film.

The following instruments must be included:

  • Flute
  • Clarinet
  • Saxophone
  • Trombone or euphonium
  • Percussion (1 musician)
  • Piano
  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Cello
  • Double bass

ensemble eeek recommends composing a piece for one of the films below, but will consider proposals from composers provided the proposed duration is within the range of 15 and 20 minutes.

  • Dudley Murphy & Fernande Léger: "Ballet mécanique" (1924) 16'
  • Luis Buñuel & Salvador Dalí: "Un chien Andalou" (1929) 16'

timeline

  • Deadline for the registration: 31st July 2025
  • Announcement of the selected composer: 31st August 2025
  • Delivery of the score to the ensemble eeek: 15th March 2026
  • Premiere of the piece: late spring / early summer 2026
