A Journey of Artistic Discovery Across Europe
Dimension of Current Compositional Practice (2) | Composers in Dialog with Musicologists
Fondazione Giorgio Cini
Deadline
1. DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
Theoretical reflection is a peculiar aspect of twentieth- and twenty-first-century composers. In a dialogue between composers and musicologists, this seminar offers the chance to explore four key concepts in the compositional experiences of the last 125 years: notation, time, nature and voice. They will be discussed based on the various declinations they have experienced over the decades. The analysis of the referents and evolution of the four concepts is entrusted to two internationally renowned composers, central figures on the music scene for years: Georg Friedrich Haas and Liza Lim. In turn, they will dialogue with two musicologists who have made significant contributions to the understanding of twentieth- and twenty-first-century music: Ingrid Pustijanac and Nikolaus Urbanek.
The seminar is in English.
The call is aimed at composers with strong theoretical interests and musicologists conducting research on 20th- and 21st-century music. Particular attention will be given to candidates in the initial phase of their career (composition diploma, doctorate in musicology, etc.). The commission will also take into account the international composition of the seminar and the greatest possible balance between genders.
