Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame featuring Baritone Violin and Clavichord
Vox Novus is calling for one-minute pieces composed for Baritone violin and clavichord. For this Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame, we are looking for clavichord works specifically written for Alisa Rose & Monica Chew.
The baritone violin is typically a standard-size violin that has been strung with heavier strings tuned an octave below standard tuning.
The range of the clavichord is from F1-F6. The lowest octave has an additional set of four-foot strings that vibrate sympathetically. This helps boost the bass range and can introduce wolf sounds when the four-foot strings are out of tune.
The clavichord is fully chromatic and double-strung. Some clavichords are double or triple-fretted, which allows 2 or 3 keys to share the same string (or pair of strings), saving space and tuning time. This means that certain chord clusters may be impossible to play. The clavichord is unfretted and can play in any key.
The clavichord is a quiet instrument and thus unsuited to chamber music. It is about as quiet as an acoustic guitar with an extended pianississimo range.

San Francisco Bay Area violinist/fiddler Alisa Rose is known as much for her classical playing as for her fiddling and lyrically intense soloing on bluegrass and rock tunes. In this video she demonstrates her baritone violin, an unidentified instrument that she strings with Super Sensitive Sensicore Octave strings.

Artist statement: I love programming works that bring something new to the repertoire. It has been a great joy focusing on music outside of the standard canon for the past several years. Diversifying the music that I study has led me to appreciate structure, rhythm, texture, and color in a whole new way, both as a performer and a composer. I love clavichord and greatly look forward to expanding the repertoire for this sensitive, intimate instrument with your help.
Monica Chew has been featured on Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame for 2 different sets of 15 which can be seen here:
