Purpose of the competition

In 2026, to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Jaume Padrós Montoriol, Acord Edicions, in collaboration with the Festival Mixtur, announces the International Accordion Composition Competition Jaume Padrós 2026, with the aim of promoting the creation and dissemination of new works for accordion.

The competition consists of two independent categories:

  • Category A – Commissioned Work
  • Category B – Open Call for Works

RULES

CATEGORY A – COMMISSIONED WORK

This category aims to select a composer for the commission of a new work for accordion and soprano duo or accordion and cello duo.

Application Submission

Applicants must submit:

  • Two original works (premiered or not).
  • The score and a recording of each work (live recording or demo).

Prize Category A

  • Commission fee of €2,000.
  • Premiere of the work at Festival Mixtur 2026.
  • Edition, publication, and distribution of the work by Acord Edicions.

Commission Conditions

  • Instrumentation: new work for accordion and soprano duo or accordion and cello duo.
  • Approximate duration: 7-12 minutes.
  • Fee of €2,000, payable to the selected composer once the work is fully completed and approved by the organizers.
  • Deadline for delivery of the commissioned work: 16 August 2026.
  • Final conditions: Any additional details regarding deadlines, final format, or other compositional aspects will be agreed directly with the selected composer.

  • Biography
  • Scores of two works

Schedule Category A

  • Application deadline: 8 March 2026.
  • Notification of selected composer: during April 2026.

 

CATEGORY B – OPEN CALL FOR WORKS

This category aims to award a written work for one of the following ensembles:

  • Solo accordion
  • Accordion and soprano
  • Accordion and cello
  • Accordion, flute, and cello
  • Accordion, soprano, flute, and cello

Prize Category B

  • Cash prize: €800.
  • Performance of the work at Festival Mixtur 2026.
  • Edition, publication, and distribution of the work by Acord Edicions.

Work Requirements and Submission

  • Style and structure of the works are free.
  • Works will be performed at Festival Mixtur without a conductor.
  • Previously performed works are allowed.
  • Submissions must be anonymous: only the title and a pseudonym are allowed; identifying marks that could reveal the composer’s identity are prohibited.
  • Works may be handwritten (with clear, legible notation) or digitally typeset.
  • The organizers reserve the right to reject illegible or incomplete scores.

Jury

  • The jury will consist of professionals of recognized prestige.
  • Their decision will be final and binding.
  • The jury reserves the right not to award a prize in any category.

Rights of Edition, Premiere, and Dissemination

  • Awarded or commissioned works will be published by Acord Edicions.
  • Awarded composers must provide:
  • Final score in digital format (.xml and .pdf)
  • Separate parts, if applicable
  • Acord Edicions reserves the right to perform, record, promote, and distribute the works in accordance with current copyright law.
  • Any concert program or printed/recorded edition must acknowledge:
  • Category A: Commissioned work of the 1st International Accordion Composition Competition Jaume Padrós
  • Category B: Work selected in the 1st International Accordion Composition Competition Jaume Padrós

General Conditions

  • The competition is open to composers of all ages and nationalities.
  • Participants may submit to one or both categories; a separate registration form must be completed for each category.
  • Scores and recordings must be submitted through valid, permanent links allowing direct access, as indicated in the registration form.
  • All financial prizes stated in these rules are subject to tax withholdings according to applicable law.
  • Participation in the competition implies full acceptance of these rules.
