International Composition Competition 2027

As part of the international chamber music competition “Franz Schubert and the Music of Modern Music” at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Austria), we invite submissions. This composition competition is dedicated to expanding the contemporary repertoire for the specified six-piece chamber music ensemble and is a member of the WFIMC.

We are seeking new compositions for a mixed ensemble consisting of a piano duo with a string quartet (two pianos or piano four-hands with two violins, a viola and a cello).

Important information

• Composers of all nationalities and stateless persons are eligible to enter
• Age limit: Born in 1986 or later
• Submission deadline: 10 March 2027 via muvac
• Entry fee: €30

Prize and benefits

• Prize money: €5,000
• The winning composition will be included as a set piece in the competition repertoire for the piano duo category; all qualified ensembles will prepare this work for the final round.
• The performances of the award-winning piece by all the piano duos reaching the final, accompanied by a string quartet from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, will be recorded during the competition.
• Compositions selected by the jury in an initial phase will be added to the library of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
