Sonic dramaturgies
Ircam is offering a composition workshop for solo instruments and electronics led by Sivan Eldar, with three musicians from the Ensemble intercontemporain and two Ircam computer music designers.
This workshop will explore the dialogue between, and orchestration of, instrumental and electronic sound in relation to text. Poems by Laura Vazquez, chosen with the participants, will serve as points of departure and as a fil rouge connecting the works of the six selected composers (the poems may be approached in the broadest sense: as inspiration, imagery, sound, or conceptual material). Together with three musicians from the Ensemble intercontemporain and two Ircam computer music designers, participants will create works for solo instrument and electronics, engaging with questions of embodied and disembodied sound, the interplay between semantic and instrumental gesture, spatial dramaturgy, and immersivity within the Ircam Espace de projection.
Organization
January 2026 – Online introduction meeting with all six selected composers, Sivan Eldar, the three soloists from the Ensemble intercontemporain, the computer music designers, and the Ircam teams.
January to May 2026 – Online preparatory work sessions.
Each composer will then have two one-hour individual online meetings with Sivan Eldar and the computer music designers to discuss the project proposed in their application, as well as online and email exchanges with their performers and the Ircam computer music designers.
