The New Symposium invites artists to enter a one-year online residency conceived as a sustained environment for artistic research, collective inquiry, and practice-led development.

Across weekly meetings, works in progress, emerging research, speculative propositions, methodological experiments, performances, texts, images, screenings, rehearsals, and unresolved artistic questions are presented, examined, tested, and transformed.

Neither a conventional course nor a showcase, networking platform, or unstructured critique group, the Symposium functions as shared critical infrastructure for artistic development.

—

The program is organized around three interconnected fields:

Grounding examines the material, historical, social, institutional, ecological, technological, and embodied conditions from which an artistic practice emerges.

Composition of Mind investigates how artworks organize attention, perception, memory, affect, imagination, judgment, and relation.

Emancipatory Practices examine how artistic methods may disclose inherited constraints, challenge normalized forms of perception, redistribute agency, and enlarge the capacity to imagine, decide, and act otherwise.

—

Residency pathways overlap; each identifies a primary field of inquiry:

Artists – interdisciplinary research, works in formation, and methodological inquiry

Composers – scores, sound works, notation, technologies, and compositional research

Performers – interpretation, rehearsal, embodiment, collaboration, and performance practice

Conductors – score study, listening, gesture, rehearsal, leadership, and collective musical formation

Music Producers – curation, programming, commissioning, artistic direction, and institutional practice

Emerging Musicians – portfolios, applications, internships, institutional literacy, and professional formation

Applications are welcome from artists working across all artistic disciplines and at any stage of development. No completed project is required. Artists may apply with an unfinished work, an emerging body of research, a methodological problem, a speculative proposition, or a question that cannot be adequately pursued in isolation.
