“On & One Korea”

In 2025, NMK (Neue Musik aus Korea), a professional arts organization designated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, invites composers from around the world to submit original works based on the theme of “Peace and Unification”. Selected works will be premiered in NMK‘s special concert “On & One Korea” for Orchestra and Choir.

▣ Overview

a. Eligibility

Open to all composers, regardless of nationality, age, or affiliation.

b. Theme

Unification / Peace / Harmony

- Preference will be given to world premieres.

- Previously performed works must have been composed after January 1, 2020.

c. Instrumentation

Participants must choose one of the following scoring options:

Option 1. Orchestra

- Woodwinds 2–1–1–1, Brass 2–2–1–0, Strings (6-5-4-3-2 players)

- Korean traditional instruments: 1 Percussionist (Janggu, Buk, Kkwaenggwari, Jing), Daegum (1), Haegeum (1), Ajaeng (1), Gayageum (1), Piri/Taepyeongso (1)

- Minimum 30 players in total

Option 2. Choir + Orchestra

- SATB choir (approx. 20 singers)

- Orchestra (approx. 25 players in same instrumentation as Option 1)

- Text must be in English or Korean

d. Duration

Approximately 8 minutes

▣ Selected Works

e. Commission Fee*:

KRW 2,000,000 for world premieres

KRW 1,000,000 for previously performed works

* Taxes and international wire transfer fees included

f. Performance

- At least one concert in Seoul by the NMK Orchestra & Choir

– The concert will be presented in late 2025 with support from the Unikorea Foundation

- Professional video and audio recording, for promotional and archival purposes

▣ Submission

1. CV

2. Score (PDF)- Full score of the submitted work in PDF format. Parts may be requested later if selected.

3, Program Note- A brief description of the work (200–300 words), including the concept, instrumentation, and performance history (if applicable).

4. Audio or Video (if available)- A recording of the submitted work. MIDI realizations are acceptable.
