Composition masterclass

The composition course is jointly taught by Lorenzo Pagliei and Maurizio Azzan and is structured into two periods of lessons: a preliminary online phase (April-July: four individual lessons and two seminars) and on-site lessons in San Marino (17th – 24th July: daily individual lessons and four seminars).
Students will have the opportunity to compose a piece for one to three instruments, chosen between violin, viola and cello. Students must begin working on their piece during the preliminary phase and finalize it during the in-person session in San Marino, where they will collaborate with the composition faculty and resident musicians.
The ensemble in residence is the Schallfeld Ensemble String Trio:

Myriam GarcĂa Fidalgo, cello
The students’ compositions will be performed in the final concert on July 24, 2026.
The course also includes participation in seminars led by the resident musicians, and composers Maurizio Azzan and Lorenzo Pagliei.
