Ivan Spassov composition competition
I. Requirements for participation
1. Candidates, regardless of age and nationality, can apply for the competition.
2. The competition will be held in two categories:
Category A:
Work (or a cycle of works) for chamber instrumental or vocal-instrumental ensemble (up to 6 performers).
Category B:
Work (or a cycle of works) for chamber choir – uniform or mixed, a cappella or with piano accompaniment.
Duration for each individual work in both categories – up to 12 minutes.
3. Each applicant has the option to present: either up to two works from the same category, or one work from each category.
4. By 31 October 2025 (by postmark) the candidates should send the following materials in a common package:
a) A sealed envelope with the competition work(s) and, if possible – a CD with a recording (DEMO-version) of the same;
b) A sheet of paper with the name of the candidate, placed inside a sealed, non-transparent envelope.
c) The filled-in application form (given below) and a document, certifying the completed payment of the registration fee of 50 € (100 BGN), both placed inside a sealed opaque envelope.
5. The competition is anonymous.
No markings or other indications that may identify the participant and thus break the rules of anonymity are allowed on the music scores.
6. The package with the materials (listed above in point 4) should be sent to the following address:

The Executive committee is free of the obligation of returning the materials, submitted by the candidates.
The participation fee is non-refundable, in case the candidate withdraws his or hers participation from the competition.
II. The Jury:
1. The submitted compositions are evaluated by a Jury of outstanding Bulgarian composers.
2. The Jury strictly adheres to the regulations, sanctioned by the Executive Committee.
3. The Jury has the right not to award all of the listed prizes.
4. The decisions of the Jury are final and are not subject to appeal.
III. Prizes:
1. The prizes for each of the categories are:
First prize: 1000 €
Second prize: 700 €
Third prize: 500 €
The Special Prize of the Municipality of Pazardzhik: 400 €
2. Some other prizes (of foundations, private persons etc.) can be awarded by
the decision of the Jury.
3. The Executive Committee assists for the award-winning works to be included in the concert poster of the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts "Prof. Asen Diamandiev", season 2025-2026.
