An international residency exploring IDEALS, REALITY, SURPRISE: A New Introduction to New Music as a framework for critical inquiry, collaborative research, and independent public discourse through online seminars, working groups, and festival presentations.

The [theoriae doxa] residency is dedicated to developing new critical perspectives on contemporary music, bringing together an international cohort of musicologists, writers, scholars, philosophers, artistic directors, and practitioners. Framed by the theme IDEALS, REALITY, SURPRISE: A New Introduction to New Music, the program provides a platform for questioning, rethinking, and expanding the ways in which new music is researched, interpreted, written about, curated, produced, and communicated.

Through a series of online seminars, participants develop and present original ideas, texts, research projects, and works in progress, receive critical feedback from peers and invited mentors, and engage in interdisciplinary dialogue on the imaginaries, histories, technologies, aesthetics, and politics that shape contemporary musical thought and practice.

The residency culminates at the seventh Bled Contemporary Music Week in Bled, Slovenia (EU), where participants present their work through lectures, papers, and public presentations while contributing to collaborative working groups and symposia. These formats establish a shared discursive space for international exchange, critical debate, and the formulation of new approaches to researching, documenting, interpreting, and communicating contemporary music.

The program provides a focused context for independent critical inquiry and collective reflection, encouraging participants to examine the assumptions, values, institutions, and discourses through which contemporary music is produced and understood. It supports the articulation of new perspectives while fostering international dialogue across scholarly, philosophical, curatorial, and artistic practices.
