Time of Music festival's 2026 Summer Academy Course: Composing Time and Space - Transdisciplinary Approaches. Led by composer Thanasis Deligiannis.
This course brings together artists who are interested in how creative work is shaped across disciplines, and how time, space, and process influence artistic decisions. It offers an intensive environment for working, thinking, and testing ideas collectively, including each participant’s own practice.
The course combines a seminar-based part with a physical, practice-oriented workshop, led by composer Thanasis Deligiannis.
In the seminar, we examine what a creative process can be and how it is actively designed. Participants are invited to articulate questions, share challenges, and exchange working methods. Together, we look closely at how choices around time, space, collaboration, roles, and creative tools affect the direction and form of artistic work.
The physical workshop takes place through working actively in space and time. Participants are directly involved in listening, coordination, and movement exercises, and are introduced to tools drawn from theatre, dance, and music composition. These shared practices help develop a common working language and open ways of thinking beyond one’s main discipline. Participants are welcome to bring draft ideas, fragments, or ongoing material, which can be explored and worked with during the workshop.
The course is open to composers, sound artists, creative instrumentalists, and artists working with light, video, and body movement. Rather than focusing on individual repertoire or finished compositions, the course invites participants to cross disciplines and rethink their artistic practice, while exploring familiar approaches in unfamiliar contexts.
At the end of the course, participants will share the outcomes of their work in a performative presentation as part of the Time of Music Festival. This presentation may take different forms, including situations, fragments, processes, or collective configurations that have emerged during the course.
The course language is English.
