Antonio Gaggiano

Antonio Gaggiano is an Italian percussionist specialising in the performance of contemporary music.
During his career he has collaborated with numerous orchestras, including the Europa Incanto Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica della Magna Grecia, the Sinfonieorchester Basel, the Neue Orchester Basel, the Basel Collegium Musicum and the Teatro San Carlo in Naples.
He received an Erasmus scholarship, thanks to which he was able to attend the KASK Conservatory in Ghent for two academic years, studying with Wim Konink, Gert D’Haese and Philip Rathé. He also participated in a summer specialization course at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, under the guidance of Maestro Antonio Caggiano. He obtained with honors the academic diploma of I and II level in percussion at the Conservatory “Umberto Giordano” of Foggia and completed in 2024 a Master in Music Performance at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel. He is currently enrolled in the Master in Music Pedagogy at the same institution.
Antonio has performed in important national and international festivals, including the Chigiana Festival 2021, the Siluna Fest, the Rodi Summer Festival, the Festival Voci per Vico, the Musikfestival Bern, the Mixtures Festival of Barcelona, the Impuls Graz, the Lucerne Festival and many others. On these occasions, he collaborated with internationally renowned composers, soloists and conductors, including Salvatore Sciarrino, Marco Momi, Helmut Lachenmann,Lorenzo Pagliei, Ilya Gringolts, Martha Argerich, Dan Ettinger, Peter Rundel and more.
In the field of composition, he has obtained several awards: 3rd prize at the International Composition Competition “Città di Albenga” with the piano piece Discontinuum (dedicated to György Ligeti), 2nd prize at the “WPM Snare Drum Wettbewerb”, 2nd prize at the “Konstantin der Große International Online Competition”, and the victory in the “World Percussion Movement 2021 Vibraphone Competition”. He has also been awarded several times by the Adams Factory and, in March 2025, he received the prestigious Fritz Gerber Award conferred by the Lucerne Festival.
