Gaudeamus

Gaudeamus Festival in Utrecht is the leading new music festival in the Netherlands that presents young music pioneers to a curious audience. 

The mission and foundation of Gaudeamus has been to support and facilitate the latest generation of composers and makers since 1946. We put this into practice by organizing the annual Gaudeamus Festival, with related composition assignments and co-productions, residencies and exchanges, the Gaudeamus Award, and concert series. 

Gaudeamus shows the full breadth of the dynamic field of contemporary music and takes a leading role by giving young talent their first professional stage: interdisciplinary, cross-border and socially committed. Operating at different scale levels, from local and site-specific to international and large-scale co-productions. This versatility also determines the dynamic organization and other activities of Gaudeamus. After all, Gaudeamus is much more than a festival. The annual programme also includes presentations elsewhere in the country and beyond. Gaudeamus also offers a unique 'workshop' related to the Utrecht region that is a catalyst for activities, (international) exchanges and talent development. Gaudeamus is not an inward-looking institute, but an organization with a window on the world. In short, Gaudeamus is active throughout the year as a platform for new incentives and developments in music in the Netherlands and abroad and as an active partner in various international networks, such as the European Ulysses Platform.
