Organised by IRCAM, JVLMA , Gaudeamus, Warsaw Autumn, France - Netherlands - Latvia - Poland

Agustín Issidoro is a multimedia composer, drummer, and programmer based in Hamburg. His work explores the relationship between technology and culture, engaging with artificial intelligence and 3D environments to write pieces for instruments situated within technological ecosystems. He studied composition at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba before completing the Cursus composition course at IRCAM under the artistic direction of Pierre Jodlowski (2023–24). He is currently pursuing a Master in Multimedia Composition at the High School of Music and Theatre Hamburg with Alexander Schubert and is a member of the Musica Ex Machina research group at IRCAM.

Agustín's piece Online, commissioned in the context of the ULYSSES Platform, is about virtual sensibility, a special kind of perception and cognition we have been developing in order to navigate the virtual space enabled by technology. The virtual has its own rules which differ from the natural world: a regime of vision based on screens and cameras; a regime of sound based on selection and compression; a regime of touch based on interfaces and tracking devices; annulled regimes of taste and smell subordinated to the perception of colour and shape; and physical regime of isolation. Thus the virtual imposes its ways of interaction, one that we are increasingly getting used to. What is then the idea of humanity fostered by this sensibility? How are we sharing and understanding our collective desires for humanity through this sensibility? In Online, four players join in a video game, a hard-coded space. Fixed to their gaming chairs and to their devices, each of them will play an avatar with a predefined role. The game will enforce its impeccable logic, the players will try to go through. In the journey, performers are transformed – but the game remains the same.

Agustin Issidoro is co-commissioned by 4 ULYSSES Platform members for Online: Ircam-Centre Pompidou, Warsaw Autumn, Gaudeamus and JVLMA (deciBels Festival).
