A Journey of Artistic Discovery Across Europe

EMERGING ENSEMBLES: KANDINSKY QUARTET

Kandinsky Quartet

Organised by impuls, Austria

Founded in 2020 and based in Vienna, the Kandinsky Quartet is a versatile young ensemble which is gradually gaining recognition all over Europe. Coaching sessions with renowned string quartets such as the Arditti Quartet, Kuss Quartet, Ysaÿe Quartet, Cuarteto Casals, Quatuor Mosaïques, Artis Quartet, Quatuor Diotima or the Alban Berg Quartet, as well as lessons with soloists and recognized personalities of the chamber music scene contribute to its outstanding expertise for both contemporary and classical repertoire. Among other accomplisments, it was recently selected for the EU-funded MERITA project.

In the context of the ULYSSES Platform, the Kandinsky Quartet takes part in two events at impuls 2025.

1 – At its debut concert at impuls, the Kandinsky Quartet presents the 10th, penultimate string quartet by Georg Friedrich Haas, which is to be played in complete darkness – a special challenge for the musicians. It is preceded by “A Failed Entertainment” by Clara Iannotta, who teaches at the impuls Academy as does the Quatuor Diotima, for which she wrote the work.

2 – The Kandinsky Quartet was also invited by the impuls Academy 2025 to work with Quatuor Diotime, one of the most in-demand string quartets in the world today. In addition, a Call for Scores was sent out to connect young composer Academy participants with Quatuor Diotima for feedback, readings and more intense rehearsals, and to work together with the emerging string quartets on site. The results of this work are presented by the Kandinsky Quartet and Chaos Quartet on February 26.
