A Journey of Artistic Discovery Across Europe
CO-COMMISSION: MARTA SNIADY AT DECIBELS
Organised by JVLMA , Warsaw Autumn, Latvia
Ensemble "Fractales" performs a commissioned work from ULYSSES emerging composer Marta Sniady at the Latvian Music Academy's contemporary Music festival "deciBels"
Ensemble "Fractales" is one of the leading ensembles in Europe, specialising in contemporary music. Coming from different backgrounds (Brazil, France, Uzbekistan), they are based in Belgium. Since their formation in 2012, they have premiered more than 100 new works.
At the center of the program is Vortex Temporum by Gérard Grisey, a landmark work of spectral music. Grisey explores extreme perceptions of time, from vast, slow transformations to rapid, fleeting gestures, creating a sound world where time seems to stretch, compress, and fold. The piece invites focused listening to subtle changes in resonance, texture, and color over extended musical spans.
Alongside Grisey, the programme features a new work by Marta Śniady. Her music continues this investigation of time and gesture, allowing sound to evolve organically and shaping our sense of duration through timbre and detail. The concert also includes new works by Academy students Lauma Kazaka and Jēkabs Bernāts. Bringing together established and emerging voices, the program emphasizes immersion in sound and reflection on how music can make time perceptible.
Marta Śniady is also co-commissioned by ULYSSES Platform partner Warsaw Autumn.
Venue: JVLMA Great Hall, 19:00
