A Journey of Artistic Discovery Across Europe
EMERGING ENSEMBLE: CONTINUUM XXI
Organised by Divertimento Ensemble, Italy
The evening’s programme at the Fabbrica del Vapore spans over four centuries of music, weaving a sonic tapestry that bridges worlds seemingly worlds apart: the luminous, ornamental language of the Baroque, the abstraction of the 20th century, and the almost mystical resonance of contemporary music.
The two Improvisations on One Single Tone, dedicated to Giacinto Scelsi, serve as meditative portals connecting the temporal worlds of the programme, in a continuum of sonic matter. Scelsi, a visionary figure of the twentieth century, conceived of music as an exploration of the inner nature of sound, rather than as a succession of notes. In these improvisations, the performance focuses on a single frequency: a single tone that expands, transforms and vibrates in space and within the body, revealing the mystery of its constant change.
Continuum XXI ensemble weaves these repertoires together seamlessly, creating a dialogue between the purity of ancient sound and the tensions of contemporary music.
