Organised by Divertimento Ensemble, Italy

Divertimento Ensemble hosts Continuum XXI for a mixed baroque/contemporary programme.

The evening spans over four centuries of music, building a sound arc that connects seemingly distant worlds: the ornamental and luminous language of the Baroque, the abstraction of the 20th century, and the almost mystical vibration of contemporary research.
The two Improvisations on One Single Tone, dedicated to Giacinto Scelsi, serve as meditative portals connecting the temporal worlds of the programme in a continuum of sound. Scelsi, a visionary figure of the 20th century, conceived music as an exploration of the interiority of sound rather than a succession of notes. In these improvisations, the performative gesture focuses on a single frequency: a single tone that expands, transforms, vibrates in space and in the body, revealing the mystery of its continuous change.
The Continuum XXI ensemble intertwines these repertoires seamlessly, creating a dialogue between the purity of ancient sound and the tensions of contemporary music.
