A Journey of Artistic Discovery Across Europe
IN SITU: Laboratory of Not-knowing

Organised by Time Of Music, Finland
This course of co-creative processes, “Laboratory of not-knowing”, is open for composers, musicians, composer-performers, and other artists working with sound / silence / performance.
The course is a participant-led space to experiment with each other in the development of ideas/materials/works. Participants are encouraged not to bring finished work, but rather ideas and approaches that can be developed and experimented with during the week-long course. The course will proceed through collective decision-making based on the emergence of materials and collaborative constellations.
The course will mainly involve group work and individual preparation, however one-on-one discussions with the tutors will be possible throughout.
At the end of the course, there will be a public performance by the course participants as part of the Time of Music Festival 2025. The format of this presentation is open and can include finished works, works-in-progress, demonstration of process, and other modes of sharing.
Tutors: Simon Løffler & Jennifer Torrence
“Co-creative processes have an ever growing presence and recognition in new music. Works made through mutual agency are diverse in expression and rich in their unfolding. Co-developmental procedures have a way of challenging our understanding of the field in general, including the roles and infrastructure that have historically defined the artists working within them.”
– Simon Løffler & Jennifer Torrence
