Organised by Rupert, Lithuania

In this residency, Yen Chun Lin and Gediminas Žygus continue development of their project Sea Shell Spiral Scry, a long-duration, site-specific multimedia installation responding to the emotional and psychological condition of tunnels. Their collaborative work explores auditory perception, resonances of unexplored spaces, and self-revelation within intimate settings. Together, they created a shared body of research by listening to rhythm, melodies, and memories hidden within noise, attempting to sense the stories of the environment and other dimensions.

Both artists are alumni of Rupert’s programmes, and will research a new body of sounds, incorporating the metaphoric senses of breathing, tunnels, and waves of spatial time that come and go. The residency is a first step in Gediminas and Yen’s longer-term collaboration with Rupert.

The duo have collaborated since 2024, as a duo in addition to their individual practices.

Yen Chun Lin (1990 Taiwan, based in Berlin) currently lives and works among states of falling, falling asleep, falling awake, falling with(in) love, and falling (into) unknown. Through artistic practices, she tunes into subtlety, liminality, and the ‘seemingly imperceptible’ to cultivate sensibility to communicate with(in) silence, darkness, dust, wind, and sub(un)conscious states. Her works are materialised in the form of installations, hosting sculptural soundscapes, performances, collaborations, and speculative sciences. Yen holds a Master in Fine Arts at Goldsmiths University of London and received the Taipei Art Award Grand Prize (2021). Recent solo exhibitions at ICA London and Taipei Fine Art Museum.

Gediminas Žygus (a.k.a. J. G. Biberkopf; 1991 Lithuania, based in Berlin) explores viscerality and narrative design. Revolving around performances, albums, and short films, Gediminas’ work has been performed and featured globally, including recently at the Barbican Centre, Berghain, La Biennale di Venezia, Centre Pompidou, Haus der Kunst in Munich, ICA London, Palais De Tokyo, The Kitchen, and Unsound, among others. Gediminas holds a Master’s in Film, Design, and Politics from the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam. Their second solo album, “The Seed, The Sinkhole, The Flower, and The Flare,” will be released on Subtext Recordings in May 2024.
