A Journey of Artistic Discovery Across Europe
ULYSSES JOURNEYS FOR COMPOSERS
Organised by Gaudeamus, IEMA, Netherlands
Gaudeamus, Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie, and the Ukrainian Institute in The Netherlands have come together for a special project: offering the opportunity to an emerging Ukrainian composer to write a new composition for the IEMA-Ensemble 2025/26 which will be presented at this year’s festival. At Gaudeamus Festival 2026 you will have the chance to hear the work of Akim Zvarych, who is selected by the jury, consisting of Dietmar Wiesner (IEMA-Ensemble), Antonii Baryshevskyi and Liubov Morozova (on behalf of the Ukrainian Institute in the Netherlands), and artistic director Martijn Buser (Gaudeamus).
Zvarych is based in Kyiv and besides composing, he is a practicing violinist in his own Petrichor Ensemble and Opera Aperta. His practice is focused on Contemporary classical music and the method of fixed improvisation, musicological inquiry into Eastern European sacred music, Electroacoustics and digital sound design, and music for theater and immersive projects.
