A Journey of Artistic Discovery Across Europe
ULYSSES JOURNEYS: IEMA LUNCH BREAK CONCERT
Organised by Gaudeamus, IEMA, Netherlands
The International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) was founded in 2003 as the training centre of the renowned German Ensemble Modern. It offers educational programmes for a wide range of target groups, from outreach projects and international masterclasses for instrumentalists to formats designed for young artists at the beginning of their professional careers. Each year, Gaudeamus Festival hosts several concerts by that year’s IEMA-Ensemble, in which 14 talented young musicians tour Europe and gain invaluable experience.
On the Friday of the festival, the ensemble takes the stage for a captivating lunchtime concert, featuring new works by Anne Castex, IEMA composer Haotian Yu and Akim Zvarych, who was chosen from an open call for Ukrainian composers. The programme also highlights a composition by Sing-Yat Chen, one of the nominees for this year’s Gaudeamus Award.
Vif-creux by Anne Castex is a commission in the context of Ulysses Network and has been already premiered by this year’s Ulysses Ensemble in France and Italy. IEMA-Ensemble takes over the performance for the Netherlands and Germany.
