Composing the Networked Mind
On humans, machines, and other intelligences on stage
What does it mean to compose for – and perform with – other forms of intelligence, and how do the boundaries between agency, control and authorship blur in these hybrid systems?During this lecture, Dutch artist Zeno van den Broek dives into his recent artistic practice and research, focusing on the shifting relationship between humans, machines, and tools on stage. Together, we’ll step inside the networked installation that forms the backbone of his recent work Ways of [ ], created for HIIIT and Les Percussions de Strasbourg. Along the way, themes such as A.I., algorithmic systems, robotics, and schizophonia unfold as both technical forces and artistic provocations.
Zeno van den Broek is a composer and artist who explores the intricate relationship between humans and technology. His audiovisual creations examine how our interactions with fabricated environments shape our experiences. Van den Broek’s works challenge conventional perceptions of technology-infused surroundings, encouraging deeper engagement. Through his intense and thought-provoking works, he aims to disrupt our habitual consumption of these spaces and interactions, prompting us to venture beyond our comfort zones and actively explore new possibilities.
Van den Broek frequently works with esteemed partners such as Gaudeamus, LI-MA and HIIIT (formerly Slagwerk Den Haag). He presents his work at venues and festivals such as the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Old Church Amsterdam, Rewire and STRP. Since 2026 Zeno van den Broek is artistic director of HIIIT (Formerly Slagwerk Den Haag).
