ULYSSES JOURNEYS FOR COMPOSERS

In the autumn of 2025, Gaudeamus and Insomnio launched a Call for Composers to create new works that challenge and expand the artistic research with Insomnio’s TouchLab TERMINAL. Mexican composer and percussionist Luis Fernando Amaya, based in Oslo, was selected out of this call to develop a piece of 10–20 minutes, written for an instrumentation within Ensemble Insomnio, the Utrecht-based ensemble for contemporary music.
Insomnio always seeks to expand the boundaries of ensemble playing. With its Research & Creation Hub TouchLab, the ensemble developed TouchLab TERMINAL: an open-source networked audio software that enables real-time collaboration across distance, the software that began as a tool for rehearsals and concerts and now unfolds as an artistic medium for creating entirely new forms of performance. Next to Luis Fernando Amaya, three other composers were selected for the call and will be part of the research in the years 2026 and 2027.
